“ This collection is enthused by the essence of what makes us common as a community, it captures my perspective of a united South African heritage. I drew inspiration from all the South African cultures that I've been exposed to over the years. ”
- Katekani Moreku
Katekani’s inspiration is largely sourced from the Sepulana culture. As part of the traditional attire, the SePulana culture combines scraps of fabric and plastic material which ties in perfectly with Katekani’s desire to practice sustainable fashion by upcycling different types of waste material. The Sepulana culture (a SePedi dialect) is one of the African cultures that dabble in the use of bright & bold colours, which has inspired Katekani’s desire to be unconventional and disobedient to acts of conformity, He is enthused by pushing boundaries. Katekani accentuates out of the box thinking and the countenance of inimitable individuality and creating wearable art.
